Lesson Time

Students should arrive five minutes before their lessons are to begin, but not earlier then five minutes as it interrupts the flow of the ongoing lesson. There is no need to ring or knock. If you are dropping off an older child for a lesson please be prompt when picking up your child at the end of a lesson.

Missed Lessons

Once a lesson is scheduled you will be expected to pay for it unless you provide 24 hours advance notice of cancelation(Monday appointments need to be canceled by the previous Friday). Students who miss lessons due to a sickness or an emergency will be given one make up lesson per semester (Fall, Spring/Summer). Master Class may also be used as a make up. Lessons missed due to other reasons are not eligible for makeup times.

Lesson Switch

I will provide a schedule with contacts for parents. If you know your child will have a conflict for one or two lessons during the year you are welcome to contact another family on the schedule who has the same length lesson time to see if they can switch that week.

Please ask for updated contact list.

Communication

I try to keep our lesson time 100% devoted to teaching your child. If you would like to speak about progress or other issues it is best for us to discuss these outside of our lesson.

Parent Support

For young beginners, parents should expect to attend all lessons and take notes in so that they can help their child during at home practicing sessions. Please have your devices on airplane mode.

Gradually the student will be able to take over the responsibility for practicing. As children mature and progress they often learn and respond differently when they work one on one with private teacher. Each student is unique and we can work together for the best learning environment for your child as they grow. View the Practice Guidelines for additional help in supporting your student at home.

It is the parent's responsibility to help structure their child's week so that they are not overcommitted and have time to practice violin at least 5 days a week . No one can do it without practice!

Parking

The extension and left side of the driveway is available for parking, but please do not park if you are only dropping off or picking up your student.

Park near the entrance of the cul-de-sac without blocking any driveways or mailboxes. The postman will not deliver mail if they can't get to the mailbox from their truck.

Please be courteous and help me keep my neighbors happy.

Fee of $20 per family for each recital to cover the cost of renting performance venue. Additional cost TBA for the piano accompaniment for one rehearsal and performance for The Fall/Spring Recital.
Each Semester I hold at least 2 Master Classes (2 hours long) and strongly recommend all students to attend. Master Class Tuition: $30 per student.

Recitals

Performance is a necessary part of learning to play an instrument. Often it takes 2-3 months to learn a piece and the performance is a reward for the student, the family and the teacher. It is also an incentive for the student to learn and practice what is being taught at the lesson. I encourage all students to find opportunities to perform outside of our studio recital. Churches, Senior Centers and School talent shows are good examples of other places they can perform. Our twice a year studio recitals and dress rehearsals are mandatory.

I am proud of my students' work and from time to time would like to share pictures or videos of their performances or studio events such as recitals and masterclasses. This might occur through a post on my website or Facebook. This will only be done with either an adult student's consent, or the consent of a parent/guardian in the case of student under the age of 18.
