Guide for Parents

During The Lesson

For young beginners parents should expect to attend all lessons. At first parents will be very involved in their child's practice time. Gradually the student will be able to take over the responsibility for practicing and will have lessons without the parents needing to attend. As children mature and progress they often learn and response differently when they work one on one with a private teacher. Each student is unique and we can work together for the best learning environment for your child as they grow.

Bring a notebook to the lesson and write down what is taught and how it is taught.

Stay attentive during the lesson. If you are distracted your child may feel what they are doing is not important enough for you. Their attitude and musical progress will suffer. Please put all your devices away and on silent during the lesson.

Refrain from making musical corrections or comments about your child's playing during the lesson. This is the teacher's job during the lesson and your job at home.

Regarding discipline and behavior during the lesson: if the child's short attention span and restlessness is the cause of behavior problems, please leave the disciplinary task to the teacher during the lesson.
